SOCIO-BEE is a participatory platform, with the aim of monitoring and recording atmospheric air changes and was developed within the framework of the European Research and Innovation program ‘Horizon 2020’. The platform is an innovative European initiative that attempts to increase public awareness of issues related to climate change and environmental protection, through the adoption of a more sustainable behavior.
Through the valuable contribution of a team of scientists and academics who have developed a number of participatory tools to monitor environmental changes, citizens become active members of an ‘online cell’ and provide their own recordings through the use of their mobile phones to enhance collaboration between journalists and the public. Collaboration strengthens the role of citizens’ science in academic research while also encourages the cooperation between journalists and their audiences. In this way, SOCIO-BEE is further developed providing participation opportunities and promoting the ‘sense of belonging’.
SOCIO-BEE’s Objectives:
- Promoting civic participation, citizens’ science and emerging interactive technologies as digital tools that enhance the adoption of a more sustainable behavior.
- Cultivating public awareness around issues related to the atmospheric air changes, through citizen engagement with experimental observations and recordings of the atmosphere’s transformations.
- Changing citizens’ behavior and habits, with the aim of enhancing audience participation in local voluntary actions beyond the environmental protection.
