SHAZAAM

SHAZAAM is a research project of the European Media and Information Fund that aims to promote media literacy and develop new digital tools and research methods that combat digital pseudoscience misinformation.

The project adopts a techno-social approach that combines social sciences methods with advanced digital tools implementing the activities of the European Digital Media Observatory (EDMO) that collaborates with leading academic institutions, scientific bodies and civil organizations. With the aim of cultivating and enhancing youngsters’ critical thinking, SHAZAAM seeks to provide advanced methods and digital tools to detect and gain a deeper understanding of the phenomenon of disinformation in the field of pseudoscience.

SHAZAAM’s Objectives:

  • Providing the best practices to detect disinformation in the field of pseudosciences in Greece and Portugal.
  • Identifying pseudosciences through the establishment of a framework provided by academics and media experts.
  • Avoiding alienation of youngsters by dispelling false narratives on social media.
  • Equip Gen Z with digital literacy skills to recognize pseudoscience hoaxes with special focus on people of remote areas.
  • Design and deliver trainings and training material compatible with the consumption habits of Gen Z to enhance and cultivate youngsters’ critical thinking.
