MedDMO is an initiative of the European Digital Media Observatory (EDMO) to tackle misinformation in Greece, Cyprus and Malta. It is made up of a network of investigative journalists, media literacy experts and academics who collaborate to eradicate misinformation in Mediterranean region.
The project consists of research contributions and actions that aim to identify disinformation campaigns, detect and categorize users’ behavior in social media so as to clarify which parameters lead people to share fake news. At the same time, the project organizes and promotes a number of education activities to help people deal with misinformation and provides digital tools in order for media experts to detect misleading content.
MedDMO’s Objectives:
- Fact-checking, with the aim of detecting fake news.
- Detecting misinformation campaigns through innovative digital technologies.
- Assesing the impact of misinformation in European countries.
- Monitoring misinformation campaigns on online platforms in Greece, Cyprus and Malta.
- Evaluation of the economic viability and the measures that EU governments have received to support efforts that aim to reduce misinformation.
- Evaluation and comparative analysis of news content produced by media outlets in Greece, Cyprus and Malta.
- Creating a community whose members conduct research actions that aim to detect and reduce misinformation in the Mediterranean region.
- Organization of workshops and events adapted to participants’ needs that aim to launch new knowledge related to the field of Journalism and Communication Studies.
