JOLT

JOLT is an educational network and as a part of the Marie-Sklodowska actions, it has been developed under the auspices of the EU Commision. As a research initiative, JOLT aims to exploit and integrate digital technologies and data science in the field of digital journalism. Through educational and research projects, it offers new theoretical approaches, technological prospects and guidelines for developing the best practices in the news industry.

JOLT encourages the integration of innovative solutions and the utilization of data science by the media industry through a multidisciplinary and and multisectoral consurtium represented by leading EU university institutions and non academic partners across the Europe. The action framework of the program includes the attendance -by all collaborators- of three laboratory lectures, six research seminars and three summer schools which combine multiple scientific approaches and provide knowledge to all members.

JOLT’s Objectives:

  • Harnessing digital technologies and data science to promote economically sustainable and socially valuable journalism.
  • Creation of open source digital tools for journalistic purposes.
  • Writing and publishing research articles in scientific journals and presentation of academic papers in interdisciplinary conferences.
  • Developing guidelines that suggest the best practices to utilize data science and digital tools in the media industry.
  • Creating an active network of interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral partners, with the aim of promoting research and innovation beyond the narrow boundaries of the project.
  • Promoting a competitive EU media sector that is made up of professionals from different academic disciplines.
